A semi-annual snapshot of tools, techniques, platforms, languages and frameworks, organized into Adopt, Trial, Assess, Hold rings, highlighting AI-driven themes and emerging antipatterns for tech leaders.
The Thoughtworks Technology Radar is released twice a year and gives engineering leaders a curated set of recommendations across four rings - Adopt, Trial, Assess and Hold. Each blip represents a tool, technique, platform, language or framework that the global Thoughtworks community has evaluated based on real project experience. The ring placement tells you whether you should start using it now, try it in a limited context, keep an eye on it, or avoid it entirely.
The current volume focuses on AI-driven infrastructure and agentic workflows. Themes include GPU-aware orchestration for large AI models, the rise of Model Context Protocol (MCP) powered agents, and AI coding workflows that embed generative tools into the software value chain. The radar also flags emerging antipatterns such as AI-accelerated shadow IT and naive API-to-MCP conversions, giving teams concrete warning signs before they adopt risky practices.
For technical leaders, the radar cuts through the noise of countless new tools and provides a shared language for evaluating them. It supports faster decision-making, encourages experimentation with vetted technologies, and spreads knowledge across teams, helping you avoid costly missteps while staying at the forefront of innovation.
