Live Now! – 25 minute course

As leaders, our careers are all about the people around us – ourselves, our team and our customers and so a people-focused mindset is the best way to help yourself succeed in leadership.

Sometimes, these people skills are broadly labelled “Soft Skills”. This is in contrast to your “Hard Skills”, which are your industry-specific skills, such as writing software and architecting the technical solutions to problems.

We prefer calling them “Core Skills” as they are core to any role, but especially to leadership positions. This course lays out how to learn those “Core Skills”, and how they can be successfully practiced with focus.

Both Leading the Technology and Leading the People are important, but the focus on them will change as you progress and develop in your career. We hope that this course will provide valuable insights to help you become an effective leader in today’s industry. Join us as we explore these topics further.

In this course, we will cover the question of whether being a good leader is a result of nature or nurture. Can leadership skills be learned or do you have to be born with them? Through my story, you’ll see that I wasn’t born a natural leader, but I learned these skills and became one. We will also go through a list of skills that are beneficial for leaders, and the separation between the Technical side of those skills and the Core side of those skills.

Additionally, we will touch on how much of being a leader is technical, and how this can change as you progress through your career and the type of organization you are in.

Lastly, we will discuss the role of Business Skills in leadership, such as project management and why they are important.

In this course, we will cover the importance of focusing on both your Technical Skills and your Core Skills as a leader and why both are important. We will discuss how these skills can be learned, rather than being something you are born with. And most importantly, we will talk about how these skills can have a big impact on the people around you and your organization.

This course will teach you:

  • The role of technology leadership in a modern workplace
  • The skills that are important to the success in technology leadership
  • How to learn those skills in an effective manor
  • How much of your role is technology vs people vs business
